How to print and cut them

Print, cut, deal.

Five steps from the print dialog to a deck in every hand.

  • Print at actual size

In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or "Actual size", not "Fit to page". Each card is then 63 Γ— 88 mm (2.5 Γ— 3.5 in), a standard playing card, nine to a sheet.

  • Use thick paper

Card stock of 200 to 300 g/mΒ² (80 to 110 lb cover) won't show the number through the back, and survives many sprints. Plain paper works for a try.

  • Print the backs on the other side

With "Card backs" on, every sheet of faces is followed by a sheet of backs. Print double-sided, flipping on the long edge; without a duplex printer, print the odd pages, put the stack back and print the even ones.

  • Cut along the dashed lines

A paper trimmer or a craft knife and a ruler make straight cuts quickly. Round the corners with a corner punch, or laminate the sheets first if the cards will see coffee.

  • Hand out one deck per player

Set "Decks to print" to the size of your team, and the decks follow one another on the sheets.

How to play with printed cards

One story, one flip.

The whole round, on a table instead of a screen.

  • Read out a story

Someone reads it out, and the team asks questions until it's clear enough to size.

  • Pick a card

Everyone puts their card face down on the table, without showing it.

  • Flip together

On the count of three, everyone turns their card over at once.

  • Talk, then vote again

The highest and the lowest explain their reasons; the team votes again until the cards come close, and writes down the estimate.

Not everyone in the room?

Play the same decks online.

Paper cards stop at the meeting room's door. A free Estimay room uses the same decks in the browser, with no sign-up and no player limit.

  • Hidden until the reveal

Votes stay hidden until everyone flips, and the results and averages are worked out for you.

It runs inside Slack, Google Meet, Discord and Telegram, and imports a backlog from Jira, Linear, Asana or Trello, writing the estimates back.

Questions

Are the printable planning poker cards free?

Yes. Pick a deck, print as many copies as your team needs, or save them as a PDF. There is no sign-up, no email and no watermark beyond a small estimay.io line on each card and one extra card about Estimay at the end.

How big are the cards?

Each card is 63 Γ— 88 mm (2.5 Γ— 3.5 in), the size of a standard playing card, nine to a sheet of A4 or US Letter. Print at 100% or "Actual size", not "Fit to page", to keep that size.

Which decks can I print?

Fibonacci, modified Fibonacci, T-shirt sizes, powers of 2, AI tokens, risk, clarity and Agent-ready, the same decks an Estimay room uses. You can also add, remove and reorder cards to print a deck of your own, up to 20 cards of up to 5 characters.

How do I get a PDF?

Press "Print or save as PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. The PDF keeps the exact card size, ready to send to a print shop.

How do I print the card backs?

Leave "Card backs" on and print double-sided, flipping on the long edge. Every sheet of faces is followed by a sheet of backs that lines up with it. Without a duplex printer, print the odd pages, put the stack back in the tray and print the even ones.

Can we play with printed cards and online at the same time?

Yes. A hybrid team can keep the cards in the meeting room and put each story in a free Estimay room, so remote people vote from their browser or chat app and everyone sees the same results.
